Growth, Scale & Global Potential
1. Total Export Turnover & Industry Targets
2024:
Vietnam’s wood and furniture industry reached approximately USD 16.25 billion, surpassing the previous record set in 2022.
2025:
Export turnover is projected to exceed USD 17.3 – 18 billion, representing an estimated growth of 5.4% – 10% compared to 2024.
2026 Target:
The industry is aiming to achieve the milestone of USD 20 billion in export value.
2. Export Structure by Product Category
Furniture products continue to account for the largest share and generate the highest added value within the industry:
- Living room & dining room furniture: Approximately 38% of total export value.
- Bedroom furniture: Around 32%.
Other intermediate wood products include:
- Wood chips: About 17%.
- Wood panels & flooring materials: Around 13%.
- Wood pellets: Approximately 5%.
3. Export Market Distribution
The United States remains the largest export market for Vietnam’s furniture industry:
- United States: Accounts for approximately 54% – 55% of total export turnover. Vietnam is currently the second-largest furniture supplier to the U.S. market, following China.
- China: Around 12.7%.
- Japan: Approximately 12.4%.
- South Korea: About 5.8%.
- European Union (EU): Roughly 3.4%.
4. Key Highlights Of Vietnam’s Interior & Furniture Industry
Ho Chi Minh City & surrounding provinces:
These areas continue to serve as the center of Vietnam’s interior manufacturing and wood export industry. Ho Chi Minh City alone is estimated to contribute nearly 50% of the country’s total wood and interior product export value.
Emerging Challenges:
Vietnam’s interior and furniture industry is facing increasing green trade regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and stricter low-carbon emission standards. As a result, manufacturers are accelerating the transition toward certified and sustainable materials including FSC and PEFC certified wood sources.
Market Trends:
The industry is seeing strong growth in outdoor furniture, decorative products, and flexible living solutions, driven by the continued global trend of “outdoor living” and lifestyle-focused interior spaces after the pandemic.
Overall, while the U.S. market continues to provide significant scale and export opportunities for Vietnam’s interior industry, the heavy dependence on a single market also increases exposure to trade defense policies and tariff-related risks.
